It’s very easy to scream at the top of your lungs, singing “this God is too good o” with eyes tightly shut, hands raised above head and forehead squeezed in gratitude when no one is asking you a compromising question, threatening to puke out your faith in God.
Recently,i was meditating on the story of Shedrach, Meshach and Abednego and I came to understand something amazing that is sure to make you dance if you are as dramatic as I am.
We are used to reading this story with the conclusion that: “Hurray, a fourth man appeared in the fire… glory! Miracle! faithful God!
But chill!
What if God hadn’t showed up in the fire and they were actually burnt beyond recognition, what difference would it have made to them? Would God still have remained their God?
You know what blows my mind about this story…
So King Nebu heard that they refused to bow, he summoned them to his palace and asked a life changing, faith wracking, tummy rumbling question. He asked,
“Is it true O Shedrach, Meshach and Abednego, that you neither serve my gods nor worship the golden image which I have set up?”
You see there are some questions asked with an ulteriory motive in mind.
Haba, King Nebu had to have known the allegations were true, but he was asking this question to give them a chance to change their minds, can you see that?
See he was given them a chance to switch their original stand, fall to their knees and say “O King, it’s not true o, we only meant that err err”… then Shedrach would interrupt abednego stuttering words “yes, we only meant that we will think about bowing, because we don’t normally do this kind of thing, but sha since it’s a law and God expects us to obey the laws of the land, we will bow”.
What do you do when you are faced with questions that put you in a position of compromise? “oh Brother Titus, is it true God told you he will heal this man?”. Questions that hold more mockery than curiosity. What do you do?
He was giving them a chance to consider plan B because as if that question wasn’t enough, he went further to tell them the punishment for not compromising, which meant being thrown into fire.
Now, he asked another question which was even worse than the first. He said,
“… and who is that God that shall deliver you out of my hands”.
Pause, Let’s do some small practical here.
Question:
Who is that God that can deliver you out of my hands? ”
Answer should have been:
“Our God is able to deliver us out of your hands.”
BUT,
their answer was:
“Our God whom we serve is *able to deliver us from the burning furnace, and he *will deliver us out of thine hand. Kadabrosh!!
Do you see that?
In essence,
“God is able to deliver me from the burning fire, but regardless of the outcome, it’s too small an issue to cause my knees to buckle shoving my faith freely into your hands.
God is more than able to,
So I won’t let you trick me into letting my guard down and seeking a plan B, because even if I’m burnt to death, he still would have delivered me from your hands, because see your fire…ah your fire will only burn my flesh, skin deep, but that’s not the end because the real me is hid in Christ.
You don’t understand?
Sometimes we are faced with faith threatening situations, we must not go seeking for a plan B. To the unbeliever without hope of eternal life, no one can deliver them out of that situation, but for us with the promise of eternal life, no temporary situation here on earth, no matter how bad has the final say in our life.
Plus,
God assured us that when we pass through the fire, He will be with us.
So dear reader, each thing individually may not look good, but everything collectively is somehow working together for our good, so remain stead fast and don’t let your rope into a well of plan B’s.
Ps: Please if you are not born again, you are missing out on so much goodies. Please say this prayer now.
“Dear God,today I ask you to forgive me of my sins, I believe that Jesus died for me and that you raised Him from the dead for me. I confess that Jesus is my LORD from this moment. Thank you for saving me right now. Amen”.
